I used to have the idea that people in rural areas had a more peaceful life than those in the big city. Sometimes this is true.
My experience in Knox County, Missouri in the 1959 and 1961 summers were special. When I was getting serious in alcoholic recovery in spring, 1991, I remembered especially happy times without alcohol.
To get ready for a visit, I started an electronic subscription to the Edina Sentinel. I found that the police were busy with family disturbances, burglaries, homicides, speeding and everything else, just like the big city.
Tonight on the PBS Newshour, I learned that farmers experience stress and depression that can lead to suicide.
I have the idea that factory farms receive just about all the subsidies. Small farmers get the crumbs that fall off the table. I ask for reforms.
