The Sixties were exciting times, with Vietnam, the Civil Rights Movement, poverty abolition and everything else. The Twenties can be more exciting. Political, social and economic commentaries are even stronger than any time that I have ever studied in history.
The Allies could have lost the Second World War. It was touch and go. Today we can be overwhelmed with global warming, poverty and fascism.
The Victory at Sea series draws emotions today, at least from me and one or two others.
I propose that President Biden and the Democratic Party fund television shows showing what is going on now and how the Democrats with Republican support can show solutions. Some can be emotionally stirring like the Victory at Sea shows. Others can be documentaries. Others can be discussion forums bringing innovative people together.
During WWII, there was a feeling that the Allies would not just achieve military victory but also a better world would emerge. During a distressed time in the Battle of Britain, Churchill said the Allies would prevail and the people in the world could walk in sunlit uplands. Some good things have happened. The United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other institutions have involved multi-national cooperation in reducing poverty and solving mutual problems.
I am drawn to DT news like an addict is drawn to heroin. His outrageous crimes and his coming punishments are fun to watch. I like commentaries from Michael Cohen, Brian Tyler Cohen, Steve Schmidt, Glenn Kirchner, Bill Kristol, Lawrence O´Donnell and others. This is far more interesting than global warming, poverty, human rights, gun control, Medicare or any other pressing issue.
Such presentations on issues that affect us can be more gripping that political gossip which is an addiction in all but name.
There is no planet B. There are no lifeboats. Life on our precious planet will continue or fail with all involved. The rich and famous will celebrate or sink with the poor and down and out.
Together humans can conquer poverty, reverse global warming and walk in sunlit uplands.
