The two ladies would have been 80 years old or close in October, 2026.
Dennis Feighny tells us about his sister, Julie Feighny Wilkinson. The Enid News and Eagle gave us Roseann O’Rourke Barnes’ obituary.
See you in October,
Ed
Julia Feighny Wilkinson was the eldest of seven children born to Dr. Robert and Helen Glynn Feighny. As the eldest child Julie was very mature as she assisted my parents in the caretaking of the other children. My father was an orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Army and was often transferred. As a result of these transfers, Julie attended schools in California, Arkansas, Kentucky, Munich, Germany, Virginia and Texas. Julie was an excellent student often getting straight A’s on her report card.
Upon graduating from college with a degree in Physical Therapy, Julie became an officer in the U.S. Air Force where she met her future husband Richard Wilkinson. After completing her time in the Air Force Richard and Julie moved to Arizona and became parents to Robert who now lives in Manhattan, Kansas.
I have many fond memories of Julie as she was a kind, loving and devoted Christian. I never heard Julie speak ill of anyone. I have three distinct memories that I would like to share.
When I was six years old my parents took all of the children on a vacation. We stopped at a motel that had a swimming pool. When we arrived I immediately changed into my swimming suit. I ran to the pool and jumped into the deep end of the pool. I began to struggle and thought I might drown. Fortunately, Julie came to the pool and jumped in and saved me.
When Julie retired as a physical therapist in Tucson, I attended her farewell party hosted by her employer. There were a number of elderly patients that attended. All of them commented to me, how kind and gentle Julie was as she guided them through their exercises. Several approached me and marveled that they were no longer in pain. Her employer told me that he did not want to see Julie leave and that if she decided to come back to work he would gladly hire her. I was filled with such pride observing the love shown to her.
After her husband’s death and her cancer diagnosis, Julie moved to Manhattan to be near her son and grandchildren. I remember visiting with Julie as her health declined and I could see the pain that she endured. Never once did I hear Julie complain, as she accepted her destiny in a Christ like manner.
Julie was a special person in my life and the lives of others. God Bless her.
Sincerely,
Dennis Feighny
